Debunking Lies About MeWe and Parler

It’s bad when the Left makes up “facts”, but it bothers me much more when conservative spread misinformation. For people who say the Left makes baseless claims and follow blindly without looking stuff up… some of these posts I’m seeing are screaming that people need to practice what they preach.

Parler and MeWe are not created by the Zuck or Soros owned. I see the same couple of posts circulating the different social media platforms. This is why I encourage people to do their own research, and I take information without proof with a grain of salt.

Parler was founded in 2018 by John Matze and Jared Thompson, they still own it and currently reside in Nevada. Candace Owens helped them grow at the beginning. Dan Bongino, whom I hold in high regard, is a partner. It is monitored for trolls by a group of volunteers, as stated by Matze in an interview with Forbes.

Parler released their Parler Declaration of Independence, including a Tech Bill of Rights, speaking out against the Tech Tyrants and laying out the ways Parler works to preserve your online freedom. In it they say:

“But absolute power corrupts absolutely. And Twitter has proven no different. They long ceased to be a public square. They are now merely a publisher.”

MeWe was founded in 2012 by Mark Weinstein in Culver City, CA. He had originally had an unsuccessful social media site called Social Groups that failed in 2001. He held on to that venture in creating tech Sgrouples for a site called MyCloud. However, in reaction to the Zuck saying, “privacy is a social norm of the past,” Weinstein took Sgrouples in a different direction, wanting to make a social media platform with privacy for its users. Sgrouples privately owns MeWe, with the help of 30 software developers, and it has been successfully gaining traction since it passed its beta-testing phase in 2015.

One interesting fact, is that Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the father of the World Wide Web, backs MeWe. The idea behind it was to be a Facebook alternative that doesn’t own, track, or share information that users provide, and there are no ads. In fact, as an advisor to MeWe, Sir Tim Berners-Lee said:

“The original idea of the Web was that it should be a collaborative space where you can communicate through sharing information. The power to abuse the open Internet has become so tempting both for government and big companies. MeWe gives the power of the Internet back to the people with a platform built for collaboration and privacy.”

I am a patriotic mother who has a passion for researching and a knack for writing. Usually judged by my pink hair and hippie lifestyle; people automatically assume I am a Liberal, but that couldn’t be further from reality. I’m a pragmatic Constitutional Conservative, and find my information from both sides of the aisle in order to get to the facts.
